Memorial grave for war victims
This largest mass grave in Europe after World War II is located on the eastern entrance to Vukovar. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but it is one thing to see this place on television, and completely another to be here in person. Then your words just remain in the air and all you want to do is absorb the image in front of you and never forget it. You want to take the image of 938 white crosses, each one a symbol for a victim exhumed in this place, with you to your town.
Entire generations are buried here, the youth from Vukovar and from all over Croatia. We become helpless here. Talking about technical details and the sizes of monuments seems meaningless and all we can do is to offer our respect and gratitude. People say this is one of the most beautiful cemeteries. They deserve such a cemetery. It would be better if it never had to be made.
